Palo Alto Baking Company has a great selection of pastries and coffee. There are also cookies, sandwiches, salad, etc. if you are there later in the day and want to have lunch.

the sandwiches were pretty plain. didn't try the pastries, so can't comment on that. they forgot my order and I had to walk up to the counter to ask them about it... no biggie though.

This is an excellent bakery that is in a very convenient location. Nothing like having a good lunch at the nearby restaurants of California Ave., and then stopping by for a snack. Or you can have one of their many excellent sandwiches. I particularly recommend their Princess Cake and Cherry Bomb. They have very good brioches as well. Authentic pastry shop with well crafted baked goods that are not too sweet and full of flavor. Need to head out early on the weekend if you do not want to be disappointed because they sell out of many favorite items.
